Polaris ORV Lube Specification Chart

Servicing a Sportsman, Ranger, RZR, General or Scrambler can be a bit intimidaing at first. However, with the right tools and knowledge it is a very simple and straight forward process. In this article I will supply the Polaris ORV Lube Chart. The ORV Lube Chart supplies volumes of oil required for each system of the ATV or UTV. The chart also supplies which oil/lube to be using within each system. First I'll list all of the different lubricants Polaris uses which will make understanding the servicing procedures a little easier.

PS4 Engine Oil (Synthetic)

PS4 engine oil is exactly that, engine oil. It is Polaris' brand of oil that is used in all of their machines. Polaris spent alot of time in R&R with this oil to fine tune it to their machines needs. It is definitely a high grade oil and I do recommend using it with any Polaris you have. It may be a little higher in price, but the comfort you get from using Polaris oil in a Polaris machine is priceless. Most machines require about 2 quarts of engine oil.

AGL Transmission Fluid

AGL Transmission Fluid is used in all of the newer machines in the transmissions and rear diffs. Polaris has designed alot of the newer machines to have their transmissions and rear ends linked together. There is only one place to fill this fluid and it's normally on the cases. Double check the ORV Lube Chart under the "Mid/Rear Gearcase" section. If the chart states N/A the machine most likely used AGL transmission fluid in that system.

Demand Drive Fluid

Demand Drive Fluid is front gearcase oil. Minimal amounts of this lube is normally used in the front differentials. Roughly 8oz is the average on most Polaris Units. If a quart is purchased (32oz) normally one can do roughly 2-4 front diff oil changes.

Angle Drive Fluid

Angle Drive Fluid is mostly forgotten in this day and age. Polaris uses it sporatically for a couple units these days, but mostly used it on the older machines. It is used as a rear differential fluid and mid gearcase fluid. It's also used on the EV (electric) Rangers since they do not have a transmission that requires AGL. Angle Drive fluid when used normally doesn't use much fluid. Again roughly 8oz is the average, however there is a few units that require 20+ oz.

Antifreeze (coolant)

Polaris' antifreeze is a great product. I have seen customers run aftermarket, autozone, run of the mill coolant in their Polaris' and have quite a bit of issues. Was this due to the riding conditions or the actual coolant? I'll never know, but I can tell you I have seen way less problems with a machine when using Polaris brand coolant. I highly recommend it. Price wise it's right there with all of the other OEM coolants so it's definitely a good buy. Depending on size of Sportsman, RZR, or Ranger the amount of coolant changes quite a bit.

With the Polaris ORV Lube Chart servicing your Polaris Machine is a breeze. Make sure to pay close attention to which machine you own and which machine you are looking at in the chart. I highly recommend printing out the chart or bookmarking the link on your phone to have it with you. It is a very handy and helpful tool to have!

**Side Note**

The drain plugs and fill plugs specifically on the front and rear diffs are allen heads. They do tend to strip especially on the first service because they are pretty tight from factory. I highly recommend getting a spare set to keep in your toolbox. Nothing is worse than ruining a weekend trip because of a stripped plug. Also replace all of the O-rings you come accross during your service adventure. The few dollars you save in not replacing O-rings is not worth having an oil leak after the job is all done!
